Three days ago, Virginia changed what it means to sell a firearm and firearm accessories in this state. I’m about to tell you I was there for the last show, starting with setup on Friday.
Senate Bill 27 took effect July 1. I worked tables at the Virginia Beach Gun Show on June 27th and 28th, the last gun show in the Commonwealth before that law landed, and the crowd already knew it was coming. That’s the whole reason the floor was built the way it was that weekend, twice the usual size, buyers moving with a deadline in their head.
Here’s the short version if you vendor at gun shows in this state: I’m not booking a single table in Virginia while SB27 stands. Every other state on my calendar stays exactly as it was. Two more stops, then Texas from the end of July through the end of the year, including the 1,500-table Bryan Texas Gun Show, August 7-9.
That’s the news. The story is longer than that, and it’s not really a legal story. It’s about a road warrior’s last weekend in a state he’s not coming back to for a while, the family that came along, a burger place in Norfolk worth a detour, and why I’m leaving the actual fight over this law to somebody else.
